In my opinion these are the finest acoustic guitars I have ever played. The Irish Built Models are at least a 12 on a 10 scale. Avalon Asian Built Guitars use the outstanding bracing system of their Irish cousins and are amazing articulate. On all Avalon Guitars you more than you pay for. History Of Avalon Guitars
Avalon is a new name in guitars but one with an established history and quality heritage. The company that now bears the name Avalon Guitars came into being in the 1980s as the Lowden Guitar Company. Through the years, the company’s reputation for producing the very highest quality acoustic guitars was widely acknowledged, although production remained small. The highly skilled team of craftsmen also grew in stature as their experience and know-how developed. Avalon guitars are all about their contribution to the acoustic guitar world and their statement about acoustic guitar design, quality and above all, tone. The Avalon project began as an idea in 2000 – at the dawn of the new millennium and the first prototype was birthed in October 2001. The launch onto the international market took place in January 2002. Much critical acclaim was bestowed on that first range of Avalon’s, the aptly named ‘Genesis Series’ (later renamed Avalon ‘Gold’ Series) and demand quickly outstripped our capacity.

One thing was certain however; the look and tone of the Avalon guitar had wide appeal. Plans were already underway to introduce the ‘Silver Series’ range, the first prototypes of which were built in September 2002. This range was launched in March 2003 and has already been established as the new quality benchmark in mid-priced acoustic guitars.

While the Avalon Silver Series was rapidly gaining acceptance, the dedicated team of Avalon luthiers were busy designing and prototyping the new flagship Avalon ‘Legacy’ Series – our high end, hand-made, premium grade range. This series was launched in July 2003 to replace the company’s Lowden guitar range, which was withdrawn from production in Newtownards at the close of 2003. The Avalon ‘Legacy’ Series maintains the tradition of style and excellence associated with guitars made in our Irish factory – same place, same people, same fine acoustic guitars.
